ChatGPT Ads is the advertising programme of OpenAI: ads that appear inside ChatGPT, at the moment someone is asking about products, services and solutions. In September 2026 the programme officially opened to advertisers based in Europe, which includes Greek businesses. It is the first brand new advertising channel of this scale since TikTok, and like every new channel, it belongs first to those who enter early.
What ChatGPT Ads is
OpenAI reports that more than 1 billion people use ChatGPT regularly to find answers, make decisions and discover products and services. Until now, a business could only appear there organically, if the model chose to mention it. With ChatGPT Ads it can now also appear with a paid placement.
Ads appear below ChatGPT’s answers, with the advertiser’s name and logo, a title, copy, an image and a link to your page. They are shown only to users of the free version. Plus, Pro and Business subscribers do not see ads, and neither do accounts under 18.
Campaigns are managed through the OpenAI Ads Manager, OpenAI’s tool for creating campaigns and tracking their performance. The logic is familiar from Google and Meta, with one difference in targeting: instead of exact keywords, you give the platform context hints, descriptions of the conversations and topics where your product fits, and the system decides when to show you based on the content of the conversation.
Why it matters for a Greek business
The big difference between ChatGPT and a social network is intent. Someone asking “which invoicing software should I get” or “is an e-shop worth building” is not killing time, they are actively looking for a solution. That moment has always been the strength of Google search, and it is exactly the moment now gradually moving into AI tools.

What we know about cost
The billing model is familiar: an auction, paying per click or per thousand impressions depending on the campaign objective. For click campaigns, OpenAI itself recommends a starting maximum bid of 3 to 5 dollars per click. The Ads Manager reports impressions, clicks, spend, CTR and conversions, once measurement is set up.
Beyond that, we will be direct: reliable Greek numbers do not exist yet, because the market has only just opened. For Google Ads we can tell you what a click costs by industry in Greece based on real accounts. For ChatGPT Ads, we will learn the equivalent numbers by running campaigns, and we will publish them here once we have enough data for them to mean something.
What holds true in every new channel is that low competition keeps costs down. While few are advertising, the experiment costs little and teaches a lot. The right way in is a controlled budget, proper measurement from day one, and the patience to draw conclusions over 2 to 3 months, not a week.
