Hosting is like foundations: nobody sees it, everybody stands on it. And like foundations, you only remember it when it cracks. If you recognize any of the signs below, the problem is not your site. It is where your site lives.
1. The site crawls, and “WordPress is to blame”
A properly built WordPress site on a good server loads in 1-2 seconds. If your provider blames the plugins while their server crams hundreds of sites onto the same disk, the problem is theirs.
2. “Everything is fine” while your customers see it down
If you learn about outages from customers instead of your provider, there is no monitoring. It should be the other way round: they know and fix it before anyone notices.
3. Your email lands in spam
Shared servers with a bad IP reputation mean offers that never arrive and customer emails that get lost. Email is half of hosting: when nobody looks after it, it suffers silently.
4. Tickets get answered in days, from someone else’s queue
When the site is down, every hour counts. If “support” is a ticket in a third-party queue, with nobody who knows your site, you are paying for hosting without the care.

5. Nobody can tell you about backups, or how restores work
The right answer is specific: daily backups, a tested restore, a measured recovery time. If the answer is “there should be something somewhere”, there is nothing.
6. The renewal came in at double, with no explanation
A low first-year price and a renewal “surprise” is standard practice in part of the market. Serious pricing is boring: the same, predictable, explainable.
7. You cannot access your own things
Domain registered to someone else, passwords that are “not given out”, files you cannot see. If leaving requires begging, you are a hostage, not a customer.
Migration is simpler than you fear
A proper migration happens with zero downtime: the site is set up on the new server first, tested, and only then does the domain switch over. At intermedia we start with a free technical audit, and if something is broken we will say so before committing. Your site is then hosted on Konet’s servers, with daily backups and people who answer in plain language. See the hosting service or send us your site for an audit.
